Embracing Leadership
As we examine the events of the past year, the Native Women‘s Association of Canada is proud of its achievements in its leadership role as it continued our work of the past 35 years toward the goals of our organization - to improve the social, economic, cultural and political well-being of Aboriginal women in Canada.
We participated as knowledgeable and valuable members of forums both locally, nationally and internationally that contributed to drawing increased attention to NWAC‘s goals, and to those whom we serve. From our cities, provinces and territories, to the United Nations, Amnesty International, Colombia, Panama, Alaska, and within our communities, NWAC staff represented the status of Aboriginal women in this country with fact based data collected through their painstaking work, their diligence, their dedication and resolve, even while daunting and often tragic truths were uncovered.
We have sought out the truths, and the heartfelt stories behind them, that have contributed to ever in-creasing awareness of the critical issues that pose challenges to us and roadblocks to our spiritual, financial and physical wellbeing. And we work to bring those tools, truths, teachings and messages of hope and inspiration to the Aboriginal women of this country, and beyond our borders.
NWAC and her partners have continued to lead the way in informing Canada, our politicians, our fellow citizens, our communities and the world of the issues that set our sisters apart from mainstream Canadian statistics, as we look backward on the causatives factors through our history, and forward to the time when we and our sisters will share the same bountiful status and benefits bestowed on our fellow citizens.
The magnitude of the work before is us our challenge, and we are thankful for the faith placed in us to accomplish it.
