The Native Women’s Association of Canada Releases Action Plan for Aboriginal Women

Ottawa ON (August 3, 2010) --The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) will attend the meeting of the Council of the Federation this week, in Winnipeg MB, alongside Canada’s 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. The Premiers and leaders of National Aboriginal organizations will meet in the northern Manitoba town of Churchill, on August 4th, to discuss Canada’s Economic Action Plan and how the unique experiences of Aboriginal peoples will be reflected within this plan.

In particular, discussions will focus on Indian and Northern Affairs Canada’s (INAC) plan for Aboriginal economic development to shape opportunities for investment called Toward a New Federal Framework for Aboriginal Economic Development.

While NWAC is encouraged by the development of the frameworks, neither the Federal Government’s Economic Action Plan or  INAC’s plan for Aboriginal Economic Development reflects the current realities and experiences of Aboriginal women who are the most socially, politically and economically marginalized group in Canada.
