The Health Department at NWAC was developed in recognition of the unique health needs of Aboriginal women in Canada, and in response to the gross disparities in social determinants of health. The Department launched in 2005 under the direction of Claudette Dumont Smith, and consists today of a dynamic team including the director, health policy analysts, project coordinators, researchers, and support staff. The Health Department also gladly provides opportunities for student involvement through both summer and co-op placements.
