Who We Are

The Health Department is committed to raising awareness of the disproportionate burden of ill health carried by Aboriginal women, and to contributing towards solutions for positive, long-term change. The department provides technical and political advice to NWAC leadership, collaboratively prioritizes research directions, responds to changing political environments and adjusts priorities accordingly. Each member of the team plays a critical role in strengthening strategic partnerships and contributing to communications and key messaging related to health.

On behalf of the Health Department, the Director proactively leverages support from federal funding agencies, Aboriginal leadership, and other stakeholders in order to create more sustainable longer term funding arrangements and to secure a culturally safe work environment. The Health Department also receives input and guidance from an Advisory Committee mandated to provide health policy advice from the regional level in order to bring about improved health outcomes for Aboriginal women across Canada.
