The work of the Health Department is intended to reflect the health needs and concerns of Aboriginal women across Canada, and seeks regional input and guidance through our Health Advisory Committee. The Health staff also work collaboratively with brother and sister national Aboriginal organizations (NAOs) in Ottawa, as well as engaging regionally through our provincial/territory member associations (PTMAs).
The Health Department has developed strategic partnerships and linkages with researchers and academic institutes, non-governmental organizations, provincial and territorial governmental agencies, private industry and media. NWAC utilizes an inclusive approach to understanding and responding to the unique needs and circumstances of Aboriginal women while recognizing the tremendous diversity among and between Aboriginal women. We believe that partnerships and collaborations, with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal stakeholders, is a critical component in moving our issues forward and fostering change.
